The cabin is red cedar located 100 yards from the public dock in Taku Harbor SMP. There is a picnic table and fire pit located in front of the cabin and an outhouse just to the south side. The average temperatures in this area are 55° to 70° during the summer and spring. High humidity and a high average rainfall make for a wet environment. Bring appropriate clothing and come prepared for unpredictable changes in weather.

Special Notes:
Cabins are not furnished with mattresses. There is water available from streams near by but it is non-potable and must be boiled before use. Please purify before using. There is a kerosene stove as the primary heat source with a very small emergency woodstove backup. Users need to provide their own kerosene . The storage tank for the stove is on the rear of the cabin. Kerosene is recommended and oil consumption averages 1 gallon per 24 hours (2 gallons per night in the winter).

** Pets must be under control at all times and you are responsible for cleaning up your pet’s waste.

Print out this confirmation e-mail and bring it with you to the cabin. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail within 24 hours of making the reservation, please contact the DNR Public Information Center at (907) 269-8400 Mon - Fri 10am-5pm.

Remember that these cabins are not hotels. Always be prepared! Be sure to bring:

  • Sleeping bag and pad or air mattress
  • Food
  • Cookware, dishes, utensils
  • Cooking stove and fuel
  • Matches, lighters, paper fire starter
  • 9-volt battery for smoke detectors
  • First aid items
  • Plastic trash bags
  • Jug of water
  • Saw or ax, just in case
  • Firewood
  • Flashlight
  • Lantern and fuel
