Prince of Wales Island Area Plan
Amendment
(Inclusion of the Southwest Prince of Wales Island Area)
Adopted: May 29, 2008
On May 29, 2008 the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources adopted the
Prince of Wales Island Area Plan Amendment (POWIAP Amendment). This Amendment
rescinds the former Southwest Prince of Wales Island Area Plan, first adopted in 1985
and incorporates the revised southwest area into the 1998 Prince of Wales Island Area Plan (POWIAP).
The POWIAP Amendment functions as a stand alone document that essentially utilizes Chapter 2
and 4 requirements of the POWIAP, but does not otherwise affect the management of lands already
part of the POWIAP. The Amendment establishes revised land use designations; management intent
and management guidelines for more than 1 million acres of state tide and submerged lands and
over 6 thousand acres of state owned or selected uplands in the southwest Prince of Wales Island area.
