Southeast Susitna Area Plan
(Adopted April 2008)
Partial list of actions subsequent to final plan published in May 2009.
On April 28, 2008 the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources adopted the Southeast Susitna Area Plan. The plan establishes land use designations, management intent and management guidelines for more than 250,000 acres of state uplands, shorelands and tidelands in the lower Susitna Valley from Palmer to Talkeetna. This plan supersedes the 1982 Willow Sub-Basin Area Plan; a portion of the South Parks Highway Subregion of the Susitna Area Plan (1985); the Deception Creek Land Use Plan (1989); and the Kashwitna Management Plan (1991). It did not, however, supersede the Fish Creek Management Plan. The borough and state recently revised this plan in 2009 and this plan controls within its planning area.
After plan adoption in 2008 there were seven requests for reconsideration. A document titled "Issues Reconsidered by Commissioner April 2009" compiles the issues raised and the resultant changes to the plan. Another titled "Issue Response Summary" reflects changes made during the earlier public review stage. The final plan published below incorporates the changes made by the commissioner in April 2009.
